iPhone capture
One capture sheet, open from every screen of the iPhone and iPad app, with three modes: Note, Task and Voice. A thought goes to today's daily note or onto a project as a task in a couple of taps, online or offline.
What you can do
- Note: text, photos, camera, files, paste, drag and drop, and Nextcloud links, onto today's daily note.
- Task: name, project, due date, Assign to me (on by default).
- Voice: record with a live transcript, edit the transcript, send recording and text together.
- Capture without opening the app: Siri and Shortcuts "Capture to siftware.dev" (a note) and "Add a task in siftware.dev" (name, optional project). Either can go on the Action button.
- Long-press the app icon and choose Capture to open the sheet.
- Capture offline: everything queues on the phone and sends when the connection is back.
How to
- On iPhone, tap the capture control: a capture bar above the tab bar (iOS 26 and later), or a round button over the tab bar's trailing end (iOS 18 to 25). It shows on every tab and pushed screen. On iPad, use the Capture toolbar button or the Capture sidebar entry.
- Pick Note, Task or Voice under Capture as. The sheet remembers the last mode used.
- Note: type or add attachments with Photos, Camera, Files or Nextcloud. Tap Send.
- Task: type the name, choose the project, set Due date if wanted. Tap Add.
- Voice: tap to record, tap to stop. Edit the transcript, then tap Send.
Limits
- Task project: the last one used, else My Stuff.
- Voice recordings are AAC in an m4a file, up to 25 MB, and stop themselves at 30 minutes.
- The live transcript is made on the device where the language supports it. With speech recognition off, the recording goes with no text. With microphone access off, Voice becomes a typed note.
- If the server refuses a recording, the rest of the capture is sent without it and the recording waits in Settings > Couldn't send, with Retry.
- "Add a task in siftware.dev" always assigns the task to the person signed in.
- Requires iOS 18.0 or later.
